About Us

Find out who we are why we have D.A.D.S.

How did we come to be?

What we do

What we do can be summed up in our Mission Statement:

To assist and support, through fellowship and action, the fathers and families of individuals with Down syndrome.
This may take the form of exchanging information at our regular meetings, raising money for special events and programs, sponsoring family get togethers and offering advice through our e-mail loop. Following are a few examples of family events that D.A.D.S. chapters have hosted:

  • D.A.D.S. fishing day
  • Game day (attending a sporting event)
  • Bowling parties
  • D.A.D.S. hayride
  • D.A.D.S. camping weekend
  • Holiday parties
  • Parade floats

D.A.D.S chapters also host fundraising events. The Indianapolis Chapter hosts an annual golf tournament that raises money to send over 25 children to Camp Hilight, a special summer camp program exclusively for children with Down syndrome. The Kansas City Chapter hosted a Poker Night that raised money to support a Pop Warner Challenger Football League. Here are some other examples of fundraising events that D.A.D.S. chapters have hosted:

  • Golf outings
  • Motorcycle “Poker Runs”
  • Poker Tournaments
  • Wine tasting events
  • Micro-brew beer exhibitions

Of course, all of these activities promote fellowship and cement friendships that last a lifetime.

We host regular meetings where our members come together to share insights and experiences.
