The ABLE Act Passes

We've been talking about it for a long time and now it's a reality!  The ABLE Act finally made it through Congress and was signed by President Obama on December 19th.  Here is an article that shows what can happen when fathers get involved.

If you have any questions about what happens next, the National Disability Institute has put together a nice list of the Top 10 things you need to know about the ABLE Act.  Among the topics are:

1. What is an ABLE account?
2. Why the need for ABLE accounts?
3. Am I eligible for an ABLE account?
4. Are there limits to how much money can be put in an ABLE account?
5. Which expenses are allowed by ABLE accounts?
6. Where do I go to open an ABLE account?
7. Can I have more than one ABLE account?
8. Will states offer options to invest the savings contributed to an ABLE account?
9. How many eligible individuals and families might benefit from establishing an ABLE account?
10. How is an ABLE account different than a special needs or pooled trust?

Join us at the NDSC Convention

D.A.D.S. will be in Denver on July 19 - 21 during the NDSC Convention. We will be hosting two sessions and you can also look for us on the exhibit floor.

Introduction to D.A.D.S.
Sunday, July 21 - Cycle 5 (10:30 am - 12:00 pm); Colorado Convention Center, Room 102
Our general session for fathers, Intro to D.A.D.S., is always well attended. Many fathers find out about D.A.D.S. for the first time at the convention. This session is just for fathers and we always save time for each attendee to brag about their child. This session IS a D.A.D.S. meeting.

Maximizing D.A.D.S.
Friday, July 19 - Sharing Session 1 (1:30 - 3:00 pm); Hyatt Regency, 3rd Level, Centennial A
Note that this session is earlier in the weekend than at previous conventions.
Maximizing D.A.D.S. is for leaders/members in existing D.A.D.S. groups AND STAFF/LEADERSHIP in local Ds organizations. Groups will discuss problems and share solutions. If your group isn't kickin on all cylinders OR if your organization is interested in the D.A.D.S. program----this is your session. Below is outline that we use for this session. Each component will be discussed and leaders/interested groups will take away tactics and strategies to help Maximize the reach, potential and power of a successful D.A.D.S. group. While the first goal of D.A.D.S. is to create a network of fathers willing to develop a program based on the needs of the men involved, there is a proven formula. The closer it's followed, the more successful a D.A.D.S. program is.

D.A.D.S. is a program. D.A.D.S. operates as a committee or community group
